Mental Health ... Does it need to be looked after in the same way as Physical health?

Despite the fact that we are well and truly in the 21st century and know so much more about the things that contribute to health and wellness, there still seems to be so much stigma attached to seeking help for mental health.

I often find clients struggle with the concept that their mental health is just as important as their physical health in terms of something to monitor and look after.

I also find that many people struggle to justify the need to seek help for their mental health, and often attribute their difficulties with mood or their challenges to function in their lives the way they want to as some kind of character weakness or other personal deficiency. This could not be further from the truth.

This article on mental health is a helpful way to understand the difference between feeling mentally healthy versus feeling mentally unhealthy. More importantly, it provides some ideas on what steps to take if you feel that your mental health is suffering.
